GKV Architects recently completed new office space for The Publishers Clearing House for their 400+ employee company located in New York City.
Headquartered in Port Washington New York, PCH has been a direct marketing company specializing in merchandise and magazine subscription since 1953.
The project encompassed an interior fit-out that focused on reutilization. The air conditioning, some walls, pantry, and finishes were kept in their existing state while other walls had to be taken down to fit the new design. GKV also provided services for this project which included finishes, lighting and AV components.
The main challenge regarding this project was its time restriction. The previous office’s lease was expiring which required the new office on 915 Broadway to be completed swiftly. Due to this time restriction, the project contained short-term design and construction phases requiring quick and thorough thinking in order to produce the project in the time provided.
The project design called for an office with exposure. The workstations, pantry, media room, and conference room are all visible and accessable to create a communal space. The conference room is encased in glass with the exit and entry via a mobile wall while the cieling is exposed to give the space a rustic and urban feel. To add a unique characteristic to PCH’s office, each of these conferencing spaces is named after a neighborhood in New York City: The Village, Chelsea etc…they also portray numbers which follow the design of the signage for NYC’s subway lines.
